Continuing the sexy, paranormal Paladins series where Darkness on Fire left off, this original e-novella features larger-than-life warriors in a secret army that battles evil in the modern world.
Fifteen years after Emmett Stone was unjustly imprisoned for a brutal attack, the true aggressor came forward to tell the truth about that fatal night. Shortly before Emmett’s release from prison, he’s visited by two men who understand his strange ability to rapidly heal from anything, and why he’s driven to protect those around him. And they have a very unusual job offer for him…
When Emmett cuts his hand at work, his boss insists he go to get stitched up. To keep up the charade of normalcy, Emmett goes to the free clinic, where he meets Jana. Instantly drawn to her quiet beauty and caring nature, he vows to protect her at all costs. But will his fierce protectiveness and hidden secrets cause Jana to run?

Love the Paladins! This return to the Seattle Paladins is a nice taste of their world and the things the Paladins have to do to appear as normal and as human as they can. Emmett Stone, like most Paladins is unaware of the source of his slower aging, super-human strength and healing abilities; he is very aware he isn’t quite like others around him. His height and muscular build, and his need to protect those weaker are just hints at his heritage as a Paladin. He is about to be released from prison for a wrongful conviction and is confused and sceptical when Devlin Bane and Blake Trahern visit before his release and offer him a job but don’t tell him much other than they will explain once he is released. Blake arrives at the gates of the prison just as Emmett is released and takes him to the Paladin installation and explains their duty and shows him the barrier. Still Emmett is not convinced and thinks the Paladins are not something he wants to join.Jana York is a nurse practitioner at a free clinic near the bar where Emmett finds a job after his release. She works late hours and often alone in the evenings. Emmett is brought to the clinic after an accident gashes his hand and his boss, Dan, brings him in for sutures. He feels an instant attraction for Jana and is honest with her about his past and that medications don’t work on him the same way they do on most people. Jana can’t explain the reason she feels safe with Emmett when his size and past should set of all the primal instincts that he is dangerous because of his size and past.
Devlin and Blake come to the bar and discuss further Emmett’s ability to feel the barrier between worlds and the confusion he feels when the barrier is down are something he hasn’t been able to explain. It isn’t until later that Emmett is reintroduced to several of the Paladins that he begins to understand his connection to the barrier that he begins to accept his duty with the Paladins.
This is a nice novella sized bite of the Paladins, a wonderful taste of these heroic champions. Give me more, please!

Darkness Torn Asunder The Paladin edition by Alexis Morgan Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Item exactly as ordered.
I love the series and broke my heart when I thought she was done with the Paladins....this was a hit for me, fast paced with plenty of actions, complex characters...good versus evil, and loyalty and friendship...of course passion, and love you can't go wrong with a book by Alexis Morgan
Great story. This was a good addition to the other stories in this series. Emmett has a lot things to work thru to get on with his life. He meets Jana and then they work thru things together. Both Emmett and Jana are getting along great and then they will help the other Paladin's protecting our world.
This is a short novel however we do run into some old friends. I really enjoyed Emmett and Jana's romance. This is a slightly different approach to the Paladin novels, Emmett is falsely accused of murder and serves out a 15 year sentence before being exonerated and Jana is a nurse practitioner in a rather seedy part of town. ( The owner of the bar is a really great side character. ) The plot twist is that Emmett doesn't believe who and what the Paladins are about. Please Ms. Morgan may we have some more?
I was so happy to find another Paladin book!!! I thought they were over years ago!!! Then I found Darkness on Fire last year, and was so excited. So I was over the moon when I found this one!!! I have always loved this series. I just wish she would continue this one and the Talions! Some series out there are on Book 25!! I know I'd buy them all!!!
I love the Paladins series and highly recommend them all. I was excited to see a new entry after all this time and really enjoyed the read. It is a novella and introduces two new characters while bringing back series favorites from the Seattle Paladins - notably Devin Blane and Blake Trahern. You could read it as a standalone but the earlier books will make the Paladin mission clearer. In fact, I think a series re-read is in order...

This was a good entry in the Paladins. I had thought Alexis Morgan had quit this series and was happy to get a little of the world again. I may revisit the others again as I really like the series overall. It was a different take on paranormal romance. Instead of vampires or wereshifters, etc... this was of a passage to another world from ours that sit on fault line. When there are shifts, the barrier between the worlds falls and the Paladin fight the aliens trying to escape their world of darkness (some from the crazy that it causes) to keep them from entering our world and reeking havoc. Paladins are genetically encoded to sense the rift and want to fight those who cross. They heal from nearly anything but go crazy themselves after time.
Here's my review of the actually story. This is mostly a romance of a released on proof of innocence ex-con, and a nurse that runs a clinic in a seedy part of town. Right at release time, a couple of Paladins come to offer Emmett a job. He decides to see what they offer, which seems too good to be true. When they show him the diggs and tell him that he is a Paladin, genetically called to fight aliens that try to cross the divide, he decides that they are nuts, even after seeing the barrier. He considers it more likely a light show. Yes, he heals fast but that's not enough to sway him either.
He gets a job at a local bar and we get to see him fight his instinct while courting the nurse from the clinic down the street. We get to see the previous character a few times and we know that the two worlds have to collide but this is mainly the story of him and his nurse, except the beginning and the ending.
It was a really good short romance with a little paranormal to add in. I'm glad I got to revisit.
