The killer in the night.
He waited in the shadows, a dark and deadly presence. He was no novice at this terrible trade--he had struck before and he would strike again. And with each new killing he became less human...and more vicious.
He stood patiently, a wire garrote in his strong hands, ready to claim yet another victim. Soon he would have one more to add to his growing list unless they could stop him. But how could they when they didn't know who he was? What he was? To a terrified city he was known only as the Wireman.
Set in the 1970s, two brothers return from the Vietnam war with blood on their hands. Learning to kill the enemy wasn't something that would go away when they returned home to Houston, Texas. Could one of them be the serial killer, Wireman? Could the other stop him?
Loosely based on true crimes which occurred in Houston, Texas in 1978-80.
A suspense thriller by Edgar-Nominated author, Billie Sue Mosiman.

I love crime noir, and Billie Sue Mosiman is a recent discovery.Wireman takes us into the mind of a very evil man. We start with scenes from his abusive childhood and track his budding sociopathic behavior. Then, we follow him to Vietnam. In Vietnam, this man commits a gruesome murder with a garrote. He comes back home to Houston, Texas, and a gruesome string of murders starts up.
One of the victims is the son of Houston rookie cop, Jack DeShane. Jack becomes obsessed with finding his son's murderer. With the help of a retired homicide detective, Jack goes on a journey of madness that ends with a fabulous twist.
Ms. Mosiman possesses a rare talent at drawing the reader in to her characters' heads. I found myself unable to quit reading even when I was horrified. Every character was well drawn and interesting...even if I wondered why they interested me.

WIREMAN edition by Billie Sue Mosiman Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Ms. Mosiman once again delivers a stunning psychological thriller with characters who draw you into their story with sympathy and then stun you with their pathology.
Nick and Daley Ringer are brothers. At the start of the story they are 10 and 8 respectively. Children from a poor family barely subsisting on the money their mom can make by selling the only thing she has of any worth, herself. Marginalised by society, bullied and teased by other children they begin to build a world of their own. Nick, the elder, assumes the role of leader with Daley his hero worshipping younger brother. But as with many children who are poor and come from broken homes, they begin to build a world where Nick is the arbitrator of rules and Daley is his supporter. Daley will do anything to help Nick in exchange for Nicks protection even when he believes Nick is wrong.
Nick the aggressive protector and Daley the reluctant follower continue this unhealthy relationship until they both join the military and are assigned to the same platoon in Vietnam. Caught up in a war neither of them understands the dynamic of, their relationship changes dramatically.
Eventually they settle in Texas where someone is murdering indiscriminately. With no connection between victims the police are stymied in their pursuit of the killer. Death is stalking the neighbourhood and no one is safe. Anyone could be the next victim, anyone could be the killer.
Ms. Moisman takes us through a stunning look into the mind of a killer. But who is the killer? Just when we think we have it the plot twists with subtle ease and we are left wondering how we could have missed the clues. With good guys who are very good, and some that are not. Bad guys who may be good or not, we are drawn into the web of darkness at the heart of a psychological thriller.
This was a interesting and thought provoking read with misdirections and well placed clues. It will keep you wondering until the end.

Despite the typos, the story drew me in. Thought I had everything sorted out but was thrown for a loop.
Get ready to be scaired. This is the story of two brothers who are tormented and twisted. Growing up their mother was abusive and they only had each other to rely on. Nick is a psychopathic child and kills animals and his brother Daley covers for him. When they grow up and go to Vietnam nothing changes. They get lost deep in Cong territory and the real killing starts. When they return to Houston people start to lose their heads. Jack and Sam know it's Nick but proving it isn't easy. The end is a shocker and not what you would expect. This is a real page turner, and a phycological thriller.
I recently finished Wireman, and found the story to be one of those that you have to keep reading because you want to know what happens next, and next, and next...
I'd have liked the bit just before the end (not saying which as I don't want to add spoilers)to be a little clearer, but on the whole a good story and I found the characters of the older cop, and the father easy to believe and well rounded.
I'd have liked a little more background on the brothers and more of a connection to the ribbon. Again, don't want to say too much so as not to spoil it for other readers.
All in all, a great storyline, and the suspense is done well.
I've been a fan of Mosiman for years (readers of my novel Gamemaster already know that!) She is not one of those authors whose work shows up at the supermarket check out, but rather the hidden gem you can't wait to tell your friends about, because you know they will thank you for it. I remember buying this in trade paperback somewhere in 98 I think (loaned it to one of those "friends" and never got it back) I recently reread the story on it's ebook edition and am happy to say it hasn't lost a bit of it's razor edge. Taunt fiction you could get a paper cut from and enough tension to raise your blood pressure a few notches. Mosiman shows us true horror by forcing us to look at the human monster within us all! Bravo Billie Sue and thanks for making this available again!
Wireman is a book about a serial killer like no other. How are the police supposed to understand the mind of a serial killer that has no pattern. This book reaches into the darkness and plays on quite a few fears that each of us have, the main one being, are we ever safe.
This book will have your emotions going in so many different directions that it just adds to the suspense and over all fear that you are left with till the very end. This is a must read book for any horror reader or anyone who loves a good dark mystery.
Billie Sue Mosiman has such a wonderful way of making all of her characters so real to the readers that you cannot help but to be pulled into every sentence of the book.
Thank you Billie Sue for all you do!!
